A search of the 1860 Slave Schedule for Barren County Kentucky reveals, on page 11, that the elderly Rhoda Chandler Deweese did not soley reside with her young granddaughter, but had the assistance of two young slaves, aged 20 and 16, in the home, along with, presumably, a son of one of the young slaves, aged 3.

("Jincy", nee Jane Deweese, was daughter of David and Rhoda Chandler Deweese. We show a death date for husband John Piper of September of this year, and a death date for Jincy of February. By this census, enumerated on the 17th of July 1860, we believe the death dates passed to us are in error and further investigation is merited.
