Below is a transcription of the Deed from Nimrod Shirley to Mary Deweese Dunaway, wife of Aquilla Dunaway, for 25 Acres for the sum of $112.50 September 1854

This Indenture Made this 23rd day of September 1854 between Henry Shirley of the County of Barren and state of Kentucky of the first part and Mary Dunaway wife of Aquilla Dunaway of the County & State aforesaid of the second part witnesseth that the parties of the first part for and in consideration of One hundred & twelve dollars & 50 cents in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have and by the presents do grant bargain sell and convey unto said party of the second part and unto her heirs and assigns a certain tract on parcel of land lying in the County & State also on which said first party now lives containing 25 acres more or less and bounded as follows To wit Beginning at two Red Oakes near the road leading to Sloans & near the Corner of said Shirleys field thence a westward course to a post & red oak near the fence where said Dunaways now live thence through the field so as to leave a new ? fence between said parties on said Shirleys to two small hickories supposed to be in Shirleys west line then with said Line South to two post Oaks corner to said Survey thence East to a small post Oak near said road leading from Shirleys to Swans thence North ward with said road to the Beginning. It is expressly understood that said land in snot to be subject to the debts of said Aquilla Dunaway & that he acquire no interest whatever in the title of said Land but is to have the privilege of cultivating the same & using it as a farm for the maintenance & support of himself & his said wife & family so long as the same may be owned by his said wife & it is further expressly agreed that if the said Mary Dunaway should at any time desire to sell & convey the title to said Land she has the full right to do so in her own recourse & without her said Husband joining in said conveyance. To have and to hold the said tract on parcel of land with the appurtenances and the said party of the second part and to her heirs and assigns forever. And the party of the first part covenant and agree to ? with the party of the second part and with her heirs and assigns that they will warrant and for defend the said tract of parcel of Land with all the appertenances unto the party of the second part and her heirs and assigns against the Claims of all and every person or persons what in witness whereof the parties of the first part have here set their hand and seal on the day and date first before written.
