ESTELLA PAGE HARLESS

Estella Page, daughter of William and Rachel Page, was born in Fulton Co., Illinois, on Oct. 24, 1872 and departed this life on Sept. 18, 1945 at Broadlawns hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, at the age of 72 years, 10 months, and 24 days. At an early age she moved from Illinois to Clarke County, Iowa and lived in the vicinity of Osceola. On September 27, 1891 she was united in marriage to Homer H. Harless. This union was blessed with five children: Reuben S. Harless & Florence Carlan of Des Moines, Iowa; Dale M. Harless of Grand Junction, Iowa; Mildred Irving of Grimes, Iowa; and Pfc. Ross D. Harless, all the children were present in the home in the hour of bereavement except Ross, who was in Germany or enroute home on high seas after an absence of 3 1/2 years. In May, 1922 she moved with the family to Des Moines, Iowa where she has since resided. A number of years ago she united with the Church of Christ in Osceola, Iowa, and after moving to Des Moines she attended the Bethel Community church, which was near her home. She lived a Christian life and had a large circle of friends wherever she lived. She had been a patient sufferer for a number of years but always had a smile for her neighbors and friends. She was a home loving person and although in very poor health she remained in her home alone, most of the time, since her son went into service. It seemed to be one of her chief desires to keep the home ready for her son's return from the service in the army. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1939; also five sisters, 3 brothers and one grandchild preceded her. Besides her children, she is survived by nine grandchildren: Fern Westbrook & Ardeth Irving of Grimes, Iowa; Norma Lee Carlan, Doris Harless, Auedrn Harless & Shirley Harless, all of Des Moines, Iowa; Ronald Harless mo. mm 3/c U.S.N., enroute to Marshall Islands in the Pacific and Everett Irving, gunner's captain, U.S.N., aboard U.S.S. Oakland somewhere in the Pacific. Also 2 great grandchildren, Gary and Keith Westbrook, Grimes, Iowa; 2 brothers, John Page of Osceola, Iowa & Will Page of Pilger, Nebraska; one sister, Rosa Wood, Santa Monica, California, besides nieces and nephews and other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were conducted from the Carl White Funeral Home, West Des Moines, Sept. 20, 1945. Rev. R.L. Chandler of Bethel Community church officiating. Interment in Laurel Hill Cemetery in East Des Moines.
