The JOHN EMMETT LEWIS and RICHARD LEWIS Families

REBECCA WATSON was born in Ireland on Oct. 12, 1809, and came to Georgetown, Virginia in 1817. Afterwards she moved to Fairfax, Virginia, where she married SAMUEL MERRYMAN on June 26, 1827. Mr. Merryman was a soldier in the War of 1812, having enlisted in the Maryland regiment and served during the war. After the close of the war, they moved to Missouri in 1846.

During the fall of 1865, Mrs. Merryman, having been left a widow, moved to the town of Norwalk in Warren County, Iowa, where she lived her remaining years. She is buried in Linn Grove Cemetery. They were the parents of nine girls and three boys.

CAROLINE MERRYMAN, a daughter of REBECCA and SAMUEL MERRYMAN, was born May 7, 1829 in Hampshire County, West Virginia, died June 25, 1914 in Sullivan County, near Humphreys, MO and is buried in the Campground Cemetery. In 1846, she came to Sullivan County, MO and settled near Scottsville. On Dec. 9, 1859 she married RICHARD LEWIS, born April 8, 1830 in Pulaski County, Kentucky, died June 21, 1906 in Sullivan County near Humphreys and is buried in the Campground Cemetery. Richard served in the Civil War. In his youth, he moved from Pulaski County, Kentucky to Iowa, and from there to Missouri, where he married Caroline. Seven Children were born to this marriage, one dying in infancy. Effa A. Lewis Carver; Ida Richard Lewis Gender; William Staton Lewis, born 1866 adn died 1939; Etta Mae Lewis Tate; Rosa Rebecca Lewis Lake; and John Emmett Lewis.

RICHARD LEWIS, born in Pulaski County, Kentucky, 1830, died June 21, 1906, was married to CAROLINE MERRYMAN(born May 7, 1829 and died June 25, 1914). She was born in Hampshire County, West Virginia. They were married December 9, 1859 in Missouri.

In the year 1846, Caroline came to Missouri, along with her parents, SAMUEL and REBECCA WATSON MERRYMAN (married in 1827), where they settled near Scottsville, later moving to the Humphrey, MO community. They were members of the Methodist Church.

The RICHARD LEWIS family lived in Israel, where his aged mother lived at the time of her death. Richard fought in the Civil War. They were the parents of six children: EFFIE, IDA, WILL, ETTA MAE, JOHN and ROSIE.
