Edward Tate was born August 19, 1755 in Botetourt Co., Virginia to David (b. 1730) and Catherine (b. 1734) (Thornton) Tate. He married Sarah McMullen on Jan. 8, 1786 in Botetourt Co., Virginia. Sarah was born abt. 1768 in Botetourt Co., VA to Edward and Sarah (Robinson) McMullen and died aft. 1804 in Greene Co., Tennessee. To this union 8 children were born including: Robert B., Nancy, David, Edward Jr., Catherine, Gersham, Carey, and Jane.
