DAVID BARR, born Feb. 5, 1834 in Miami County, Ohio, a son of James and Mary Barr. He married Ann Chrisman of Laredo, MO. They were the parents of 11 children.
John was born Aug. 25, 1859. He lived in Laredo, MO and was custodian of Laredo schools for many years. Minerva Ann married William Boyle Kilburn and lived in Laredo (they had six children). The twins were Samuel and Irene Catherine. Irene married J.A. Claypole and lived north of Laredo (they had three children: Arthur, Harley, and Corda Elliott, all of Laredo). Irene married T. Flagg after the death of Mr. Claypole. Mary Christian married Henry Knapp. Lucinda married George Gregg. Etta married William Shaney. Lula married Frank Moore. David, Jr.
David Barr, Sr. was a veteran of the Civil War. During the war Ann Chrisman Barr took her little children and hid in a cane field while the southern soldiers raided her house. It was told that David's horse returned home one year before he did.
David died June 14, 1886. Ann died Jan. 2, 1909. They are buried in the Laredo Cemetery, also known as Sandbank.
ANN (CHRISMAN) BARR was the mother of Samuel Grant Barr, born Oct. 17, 1840 in Ohio, she died Jan. 2, 1909 and is buried in Richardson Cemetery, located east of Laredo, Missouri. Circumstances were far different in those days and Ann remained unlettered all her life, able to only sign with "her mark," an X. She married David Daniel Barr (born Feb. 5, 1834, died June 14, 1886) in a civil ceremony conducted Sept. 16, 1858 by John Holloway, J.P. Their granddaughter, Edith Estelle Barr, wrote late in her own life that her grandfather Barr "died before I can remember....and I think grandma died when I was about 13."
Old marriage records show that Ann Chrisman married David Daniel Barr in Grundy County, MO, the ceremony performed by a justice of the peace, John W. Holloway, on Sept. 16, 1858. Born to this union were 10 children:
