When the
day of enrollment came on Sept. 5 1898 John Jonah Alexander was
enrolled on the Chickasaw Freedmen Roll #492. During this process John was
interviewed and statements were taken from him about his life and family.
In these papers is where he states that he is the son of John and Mary Alexander.
That he was a former slave belonging to Betsy (the only name he knows) and
lived at a place called Double Springs. He states that his first wife was
a full blood Chickasaw named Selina and she is the Mother of his daughter
Tennessee. Selina died and he then married Epsie Wolf. He also states at
this time his mother Mary is deceased. All this is found in the enrollment
packet of the Chickasaw Freedmen Card # 133V |
Jonahs Chickasaw Freedman Card.
