Robert Milligan of Dempsterton (1723-1808), son of John Milligan & Martha Creighton in Cargen (married in 1723), son of Robert Milligan in Dempsterton, son of Robert Mulligan portioner of Dempsterton in 1645, son of Fergus Amuligane of Dempsterton, son William Amuligane of Dempsterton, son of Cuthbert Amuligane in Dempsterton, son of William Amuligane in Dempsterton, first known ancestor. There is circumstantial evidence to show, William Amuligane could well be descended from Cuthbert Amuligane, who appears as a witness to a document in 1437.

      5. Charles Edward MILLIGAN, born February 2, 1861, at 68 Forsyth Street, Greenock, Renfrewshire. For a time, he lived at Merkland learning sheep farming. He sailed from Greenock to Australia on October 16, 1882, and settled in NSW, where he married Caroline ASHTON at the town of Young on August 29, 1886. They lived at Clydesdale, Morangerell, and later moved to New Zealand in 1896. They had in all ten children.
