[64] John Milligan in Edgarton
October 25, 1725: Instrument of Sasine in favour of David Rennick in Hilltoun of Cowhill came with a precept of Clare Constat granted by George Maxwell of Carnshalloch superior of the lands showing that he was the son of John Rennick of Edgartoun who had these 6/3d land of Edgartoun, lying in the parish of Dunscore and sheriffdom of Dumfries. The only reference to John Milligan in Edgartoun is in the history of the lands when they were confirmed by the late John Milligan in Edgartoun in favour of John Greirson. There were no Milligan witnesses to the Sasine, which was given between l-2pm on October 25, 1725.

[65] Lilly and Mary Milligane, portioners of Newton
September 3, 1748: Retour of Chancery of Lilly and Mary Milligane, daughters of John Milligan, to their grandfather Robert Milligan portioner of Newton, heir’s portioner general. The inquest, with no Milligans on it, stated that the late Robert Milligan portioner of Newton grandfather of Lily and Mary Milligane daughters of the late John Milligan, who was son of the said late Robert Milligan and bearers of these presents, died at faith and peace of the King and that Lily and Mary are the lawful and nearer heirs portioner of the late Robert Milligan their grandfather.

[66] Robert Milligan, portioner of Dempsterton
December 19, 1747: Service of Heir in favour of Robert Milligan to his father John Milligan of Cargene, heir general etc. There were no Milligans on the inquest and being a general service, there were no details of the lands. It simply states that the late John Milligan of Cargane, son of Robert Milligan portioner of Dempsterton, father of Robert Milligan bearer of these presents, died at faith and peace, and that the said Robert Milligan is the only son and lawful and nearer heir of the late John Milligan his father.

[67] Robert Milligan, portioner of Dempsterton
December 31, 1747: Register of Sasine taken at the hand of Archibald Malcolm, notary public, narrating that Robert Thomson in Millarland compeared personally on ground of the ten shilling land of Meikle Dempstertoun as baillie for Robert Milligan portioner of Dempsterton, specially constituted by the precept of sasine contained in the Disposition which continues in full force as well after as before the death of the grantor or person to whom granted. Also compeared personally Robert Milligan only son and nearest lawful heir served and retoured to the deceased John Milligan in Cargane son of the above Robert Milligan of portioner of Dempsterton, with the following writs:
[1] Disposition of the date of the precept of sasine after insert made and granted by the said Robert Milligan portioner of Dempsterton (father to the said John Milligan now deceased), whereby the said Robert Milligan sold, alienated and disponed to and in favour of John Milligan his son and his heirs etc. heritable and irredeemably his ten shilling land of Meikle Dempsterton in the parish of Dunscore and sheriffdom of Dumfries.
[2] The said Robert Milligan son of the said decease John Milligan had an extract of General Service as to his father before the baillies of Dumfries dated December 19, 1747, ‘as the same duly retoured to the chancery testifies’.
The which disposition and General Retoured Service the said Robert Milligan last named presented to the said Robert Thomson as baillie desiring him and requiring him … to give sasine and infeftment of the ten shilling land of Meikle Dempsterton and pertinents. He in turn gave them to the notary public, who read them out along with the rest of the Disposition made out to John Milligan, to be infeft and seised in the lands of Dempsterton in the parish of Dunscore. This Disposition, granted by Robert Milligan portioner of Dempsterton, was written by George Bell writer in Dumfries and dated 24th February 1725, and witnessed by Thomas Dickson present dean in Dumfries and the said George Bell and signed by them and Robert Milligan senior.
After the reading, Robert Thomson baillie gave and delivered heritable estate and sasine real and actual corporal possession of all and hail the lands of Dempsterton to the said Robert Milligan younger heir aforesaid. This was done between 12 noon and 1.00 p.m. on December 31, 1747 in the presence of Robert Milligan son to the said Robert Milligan elder by his present second marriage with Agnes Robson, James Bell in Cargenston in Troqueer and Joseph Pagan servant to the said James Bell.

Oct. 30, 1809: Instrument of Sasine in favour of Jacob Milligan and William Milligan, son of Robert Milligan of Meikle Dempsterton, sasine Oct. 30, 1809: - in the 10 shilling land of Meikle Dempsterton, parish of. Dunscore. Under burden of £10 to Helen Milligan & £20 each to James, Thomas and Jean children of the said Robert Milligan: - and the life rent of the William’s half of the said lands to Mary Milligan, on disposition by the said Robert Milligan on January 11, 1798.

York, Draper, sasine June 1, 1826:- in part of the £4 land of Allanton called the Merkland on the south west side of the Great Road leading from Dumfries towards the parish of Keir, and 4 acres and 12 falls of the merkland of Kelliestoun adjacent thereto on the Westside of the said road, parish of Dunscore: under burden of £2700 - on disposition by William Alexander Graham, younger son of James Graham of Glaister, Writer. December 31, 1891: Discharge by Trustees of the deceased Jacob Milligan of Dempsterton – disburdening, to the extent of £150, of Bond (dated 3rd January and recorded in the Register 22nd February 1883) for £600, by the late William Milligan of Dempsterton, - the 10s land of Meikle Dempsterton, parish of Dunscore. Dated December 31, 1891 and January 20, 1892 with Warrant of Registration, therein, on behalf of Trustees of the said William Milligan. Presented by W. H. Ash. Register of Sasine.
