The Parish of Drumgath
The Civil parish of Drumgath is bounded on the west by the parish of Newry, on the south by Clonallan, on the east by Clonduff and on the north by Drumballyroney. The earliest Church of Ireland baptismal, marriage and burial records were destroyed in 1922. Baptisms start in 1881 and marriages in 1846. The Vestry minutes and churchwarden’s account books are dated between 1822 and 1891. There are three Presbyterian Congregations in Rathfriland, 1st, 2nd and 3rd Rathfriland with the earliest baptisms dating from 1804 in 2nd Rathfriland, followed in 1827 by 1st Rathfriland and 1834 in 3rd Rathfriland. 1st Rathfriland has marriages from 1782 to 1811 and 1845 onwards. 2nd Rathfriland has marriages from 1803 to 1843 and 1845 onwards. 3rd Rathfriland has marriages from 1834 onwards. The Reformed Presbyterian Church only records dating from 1857 onwards.
I have only examined the early marriage records of 1st Rathfriland Presbyterian Church dated between 1782 and 1811 by the Rev. Samuel Barker, Minister.
