BLOOR - West Hallam area of Derbyshire.

I have traced my own surname back to around 1780, when my great great grandfather was born. Unfortunately he died before the 1851 census was taken, so I could not determine his birthplace and the trail went cold. The family stayed in the same area until my father's generation, and some of my relatives still live there today. A number of photographs are included in this section.

CAMM - West Hallam, Derbyshire

I have only some very tenuous ideas about this family at present.

CARTER - West Hallam, Derbyshire

I have just one generation researched at present, the previous generation seems to originate at Foston, near Uttoxeter.

CLARK - Stanley, Derbyshire

Three generations researched in Stanley and West Hallam, with a possible link back to Heanor. I have quite a good selection of photographs in this section.

(There is also a second CLARKE line, unrelated to the above, in Lincolnshire, for which I have researched one generation)

CLAY - Wirksworth (Derbyshire) until the 1830's then extending to Belper, Derby, Birmingham and Leicester.

My mother's family is one of the most extensively researched lines in my records. I have a database of over 200 descendants of George Clay and Elizabeth Bacon, who married in Wirksworth in 1652. As much of this tree has been given to me by others, I have only included the portion for which I can claim at least some of the credit for the research. See the acknowledgments page for details of others working on the Clays. There are a number of photographs of family members going back 100 years or more, included here. You can also read a narrative version of my research of the descendants of James Barton Clay (my great great grandfather) by following      this link (Note: you will need to have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer to open this, and the file is 6.5Mb so may be slow to open on a dial-up connection).

COOPER - Farnsfield (Notts)

Two generations of this family have been researched.

COTTON - Stanley (Derbyshire)

Information is available on five generations in Spondon and Stanley.

EXTON - Rutland and then moving on to Leadenham, Lincolnshire.

This is another tree on which others have done most of the work. A database exists with over 4000 names on it, but on this site I have only gone back as far as the mid 18th century. Again, see the acknowlegments page for more details.

FLETCHER - Heanor, Derbyshire

Information is available on three generations of this family.

FLINT - West Hallam, Derbyshire

I am still at the beginnings of my research into this family.

HALLAM - West Hallam and Heanor, Derbyshire

I have researched two generations so far.

HARRIS - Sutton Coldfield, Warwickshire

One generation researched 1796 to 1837, which then dovetails into my MATTHEWS family.

HART - Stanley, Derbyshire

This family was also known by the surname HARTSHORN. This is one of the largest trees on this website, spanning nearly 300 years. Also included is a link to the THOMPSON family (via a 1st marriage), which also links into my CLARK tree.

MATTHEWS - Aston, Birmingham

Only one generation is documented so far.

MOORE - Heanor, Derbyshire

Another family that I am only at the beginning of my research into.

NALL - Middleton -by - Wirksworth, Derbyshire

Two generations from 1750 to 1830 are listed here.

STANGER - Rutland

This tree goes back to the late 17th century before connecting up to my EXTON line in 1780. I have researched several side branches of the family too, though I am still working on this tree so not all the branches are on this site yet.

TAYLOR - Ilkeston, Derbyshire

Only one generation researched so far.

VICKERS - Melbourne, Derbyshire

Starts in Thorney, Notts then moves on to Melbourne.
