DEATH OF ISABELLA PRITCHETT 1913

(Derby Mercury 13th June 1913 p8)

SCALDED BY SOAP SUDS - CHILD'S SHOCKING DEATH

An inquest was held on Wednesday by Mr R W Sale at Stanley Common concerning the death of Isabella Pritchett, aged four, the daughter of Wm. Pritchett, collier, of Brown's Row, Stanley Common.

Sarah Eliza Pritchett, mother of the deceased, said that on the afternoon of the 28th of May the child went to play in a neighbour's yard, and was afterwards carried home suffering from very severe burns. A doctor was called and attended the child every day, but death took place on the 9th inst.

Alice Deaville, a neighbour said she heard screams, and found the child sitting in a partly overturned bucket which had contained hot soap suds.

Mrs Stafford, another neighbour, said she placed the bucket in the yard temporarily while she drove away some chickens.

Dr A C Adams said that from the first there was little hope of the child recovering from the very extensive scalds.

The jury returned a verdict of "Accidental death."
