Additional Information : Elizabeth COOPER was a widow when she married James Barton CLAY. I have not found a date of death for her, though there is a burial record for an Elizabeth Barton CLAY age 56 at Matlock on 28/12/1845 - the address is given as Scarthin Nick, Cromford, however.

The younger James Barton CLAY does not appear to have had any children.

NOTE: From 1999 to 2003 I undertook a research project on the descendants of James Barton Clay. This research was more successful than I had hoped, and although I didn't trace every single line, I was able, in Feb 2003, to print a narrative account of my research in the form of a 60-page book, which I distributed to about a dozen interested relatives. This account is now available online and can be read here. Note that the page is about 6.5Mb in size so may take a few minutes to download if you have a slow connection. Also it is a pdf file, so you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader installed before you can open it.
