Descendants of Richard JONES of
Llanwrin, MGY
Tracing my Welsh ancestors has proven to be one of the most
challenging parts of my quest so far. After a number of false starts, the online
availability of the census records enabled me to find the right lines.
Subsequent visits to the archives in Llandrindod Wells and the National
Archives at Kew enabled me to confirm my preliminary speculations and obtain
vital parish record entries. Very helpfully the non-conformist records usually
are very informative and give full details of the parents and often
grandparents, including home parishes, addresses and occupations.
These families seem to have remained within a very small
area in and around Machynlleth (including Talyllyn, Corris, Llanwrin, Darowen,
Llanegryn, Glas Pwll and Isygarreg). They were mainly involved in agriculture
from the agricultural labourer to owners of small farms and cattle dealers and
butchers.
The Welsh lines of my family remain the only ones for which
I have not made contacts. I would dearly love to hear from anyone who thinks
that they may be connected to this family. If you have any comments or can
correct or add details, please contact
me.
