LeeRoy Perry Jobe
NATIVE HERITAGE for these descendants
- 1860 Census of Oklahoma-Indian Lands West of Arkansas
Leroy Perry Jobe is listed as L. P. Jobe - parent (no Native for him is listed). He is listed as being married to a native.
- 1899 Creek Native Rolls Daughter Eliza Jane (Jobe) Murray is listed as 1/8 Indian while her son, William S. Murphy is listed as 1/16 Indian. This would mean that Cherokee (Sells), wife of LeRoy Perry Jobe was 1/4 native and that Eliza's husband, Constantine M. Murphy, Sr., had NO noticeable native heritage.
Son, Louis Napoleon Jobe, is listed as 1/4 Indian. (see notes on sister - above)
- 1900 Creek Nation Census, Town of Muskogee
Son, Louis N. Jobe - listed as Indian as well as his children. Extra data, concerning Indian descent, shows the father, Louis, and children of Creek descent, while the mother, Mary Ellen 'Mollie' (Sweeney) Jobe as white. It goes on to say that Louis is 3/4 white (again 1/4 Indian) and his children as 7/8 white (therefore 1/8 Indian)
- Indian Pioneer History Project for Oklahoma (1936)
--personal interview with Louis Jobe, son
I am 75 years old and one-fourth Creek Indian. Fathers name. Leroy Jobe born West Tenn. Don't know date born or died. Buried in family Cemetery on my farm. Mothers name. Syracuse Sell-Jobe. Buried in family Cemetery on my farm. Both father and mother came here in 1836, maybe it was 1838. Mother was on the Trail of Tears that history speaks of so much. Father was driving team for the government and to make the time definitely when he came here it was the year that the stars fell. If you can figure that out. My education was in the National and Boarding Schools in the Creek Nation and then when older attended school in Kansas. English was taught in all the schools.
