Reuben P. Davis was born July 22, 1836 in what is today Hannah's Branch of DeKalb Co., TN. At this time, it was probably a part of Cannon County. He was the oldest child of Solomon Davis and Anna Kelley though he had several older half siblings.

Reuben is shown as age 12 on the 1850 census with his parents.

On September 18, 1855, he married Elizabeth Griffith in DeKalb Co., TN. They appear as a family on:

During the civil war, Reuben volunteered as a pvt. under Lt. William G. Davis, Company A, 5th regmt of TN Cavalry. He enrolled on 9 Aug 1862 to serve 3 years. He was discharged at Fayetteville, Tenn on 25 June 1865.

Though Reuben and Elizabeth would only have 3 children, and only one would have children of their own, they would raise two of their grandchildren.

Elizabeth Griffith was born June 11, 1836 to John L. Griffith and Sarah L. She is shown at age 14 in the Forks of Pike, Dist. 13. She was the gd/o Jonathan Griffith, Jr. and Elizabeth E. 'Betsey' Williams - a family that has several connections with 'our' Davis family.

Reuben P. Davis and his wife, Elizabeth, were buried at the Martin Cemetery in Belk District of DeKalb Co., Tennessee. Their daughter, Nancy Tennessee (Davis) Kirby was buried near by.
