John's Childhood

John was born Aug 3, 1851 in District 12, DeKalb Co., TN on Hannah's Branch. He is not listed on the 1850, but does show up as age 11 on the 1860 census with his parents.

Though John was too young to fight in the civil war, he did have 3 brothers who fought for the Union.

JOHN'S MARRIAGES

John Davis married Martha C. Fite on January 26, 1871 DeKalb Co., TN. Martha was the d/o Henry M. Fite, Jr. and Mary Barger and gd/o Henry M. Fite, Sr. and Mary Grandstaff. Martha died Feb 14, 1898 and is buried beside her husband at Pisgah Cemetery in District 12 on Hannah's Branch in DeKalb Co., TN. There is a picture of their tombstones on my cemetery page for Pisgah, see link below.

John married second Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Curtis - the widow of Leven 'Lev' 'Levi' Curtis, s/o John H. Curtis and Mary Belle McFarland. Mary was the d/o John Wesley Jacobs and Sarah Porterfield. Mary died on April 29, 1937 and is buried at Salem Cemetery at Liberty, Dekalb Co., TN.

By her marriage to Curtis, Mary had four children who John Davis helped to raise. Leven Curtis had died July 21, 1896 and he was buried at the Levi Curtis Cemetery at Dowelltown, DeKalb Co., TN.

1. Wilson Curtis who married Martha Jane Hendrixson, d/o William Carroll Hendrixson and Samantha Jane Robinson. Martha (Hendrixson) Curtis is a Page cousin of mine - descending from Beda (Page) Parkerson.

CHRONOLOGY

Along with Wm Christian and as John Davis Jun, he witnessesed the signature of his father, John Davis Sen. when Puett & Francis were sppointed to represent his father in the Civil War monetary reimbursement.

Death and Burial

John died August 10, 1936 in District 12, DeKalb Co., Tennessee and was buried in Pisgah Methodist Church Cemetery next to his first wife.
