7 April 1861 - She was a former laundress aged 74 living in Well St, Great Torrington, with her husband Thomas, daughter Ellen L and grand daughter Ann (see 1861 census).
6 December 1869 - She was a widow aged 83 when she died in Great Torrington (death certificate).
8 December 1869 - John Henry Toller, Deputy Coroner for Devonshire, conducted an inquest into her death. The conclusion was that she drowned herself whilst labouring under temporary insanity (death certificate).
13 December 1869 - Her death was registered (death certificate). She was a widow aged 83 when she was buried in grave F of Torrington cemetery (Torridge District Council web-site).
15 December 1869 - An entry in Trewman’s Exeter Flying Post read “TORRINGTON – Mrs Elizabeth Chapple, who was more than 80 years old, drowned herself yesterday week in the canal. The poor old creature was subject to mental aberations, and had twice previously attempted self-destruction. The coroner’s jury returned a verdict that the deceased drowned herself whilst suffering from temporary insanity (see newspaper).

7 April 1861 - He was a kid and cotton glove cutter aged 63 living in Well St, Great Torrington, with his wife Elizabeth, their daughter Ellen L, a kid and cotton glove maker, aged 30, and their grand daughter, Ann, aged 6, who had been born in the West Indies (see 1861 census).
25 February 1864 - He was a glover cutter aged 66 when he died of dropsy in Well St, Great Torrington (death certificate).
1 March 1864 - Mary Blake, of Well St, Great Torrington, who had been present at his death, notified the registrar (death certificate). He was a glover aged 66 when he was buried in grave F of Torrington cemetery (Torridge District Council web-site).

11 May 1913 - She was the widow of John Hopper when she died aged 90 of senile gangrene of left foot, 2 months, and exhaustion, at Wonford House, Milton Damerell (death certificate).
14 May 1913 - Her Nephew, W G Wait Hopper, of Wonford House, Milton Damerell, who had been present at her death, advised the registrar (death certificate).

30 March 1851 - He was an unmarried domestic servant aged 29 living at The Rectory, Broadwoood Kelly (see 1851 census).
30 December 1858 - He was an unmarried servant aged 37 living in Swimbridge when he married Judith Hatherly Quick in the parish church at Swimbridge. The witnesses were (his brothers) Joseph and Benjamin Hopper (see parish register).

30 March 1851 - Aged 19, he was living with his parents John, a farmer of 67 acres aged 50, and Grace aged 41, his siblings Jane aged 17, John aged 11, Grace aged 8, Daniel aged 6 and Susannah aged 4, and Nora Perkin a visitor at South Trew, Black Torrington (see 1851 census).
2 October 1856 - He was a farmer aged 25 living in Black Torrington when he married Mary Grace Quick in the parish church at Black Torrington. He signed the register (marriage certificate).

5 April 1891 - He was a farmer and provisions dealer aged 59 living in South True, Black Torrington, with his wife Mary Grace and children Richard aged 23, Daniel aged 21, Nora Grace aged 14, Emily aged 12 and William aged 10 (see 1891 census).
17 October 1897 - He was a farmer aged 65 when he died of heart disease at South Trew Farm, Black Torrington (death certificate).
20 October 1897 - His son Daniel of Beacon Down Highampton, who had been present at his death, advised the registrar (death certificate).
