DATED 23 MARCH 1763
In the Name of God Amen I Samuel Pitt of Bishoper in the parish of Hankerton in the County of Wilts Yeoman Being sick and weak in Body but of Disposing Mind memory and Understanding do make and publish this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following to wit I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Sarah the Wife of John Stump the Sum of five pounds I Give and Bequeath unto the rest of my Children (that is to say) unto Samuel, Mary, Hester, Ann, Hannah, Martha, John and Jane Pitt, the Sum of Ten pounds apeice. Also I Give and Bequeath unto my Brother Joseph Pitt and my Dear Wife Mary All the rest, residue and Remainder of my Goods, Chattles, Stock of Cattle, ready money, Debts, and all my Farm and Interest of the Estate I now hold and live in called Bishoper, and all my other Estates herein before Bequeathed and also all that my Leasehold Estates situate in the parish of Brokenborough in the County of Wilts But in Trust nevertheless that they my said Brother Joseph Pitt and my Dear Wife do and shall divide what I have here trusted them with among my said children, Samuel, Mary, Hester, Ann, Hannah, Martha, John and Jane Pitt at their Discretion when they shall respectively Attain the Age of Twenty One Years so as the same be as near as can in the end shares and shares Alike, and if any or either of them my last mentioned Children shall die before he, she or they, attain their Ages of Twenty One years, then their Share or Shares of Hes, Shes, or they so Dying shall be divided among the Survivor or Survivores of them but yet at the Discretion of my Trustees abovementioned. And I do hereby nominate and Appoint the said Trustees Joseph Pitt and my Dear Wife as Executors of this my Last Will and Testament In Witness thereof I the said Samuel Pitt th Testator have to this my Last Will and Testament contained in Two Sheets of paper to the first of which I have set my hand and to the other my hand and Seal this Twenty third day of March in the year of Our Lord One Thousand Seven hundred and Sixty three Saml Pitt Signed Sealed published and Declared by the abovenamed Samuel Pitt the Testator as and for his Last Will and Testament in the presence of us, who have hereunto Subscribed our Names as Witnesses, in the presence of the said Testator and in the presence of each other Ann Jefferies I Player.
This Will was provd at Chippenham July 27th 1763 before the Revd Thos Frome Clk Mr of Arts lawfull Surrogater of the Revd & Worshipfull John Taylor Dr in Div Chan of the Diocese of Sarum And by him Admin of the Effects of the sd Testator was granted to Joseph Pitt the Extor within named (the like power being reserved to Mary Pitt the Extrix) being Quaker made Solemn Afffirmation to the truth of the sd Will to pform the same And to Exhibit an invty Acct when lawfully reqired.
