THE WILL OF JOHN PITT THE OLDER, HUSBANDMAN, OF BROKENBOROW

DATED 7 NOVEMBER 1611

In the name of god amen the seventh day of November 1611 in the ninth yeare of the Raigne of our Soveraigne Lord James by the grace of god Kinge of England FFrance and Ireland defender of the faith and of Scotland the first and sixth I John Pitt the elder of Brokenborow in the County of Wilts Husbandman being sick in body but of perfect remembrance Thanks be to god Doe make and ordaine this my Testament wherein is contained my last Will in manner and forme following, ffirst I bequeath my soule to god my Saviour and my body to the earth Item I give unto my eldest son John Pitt the grounds south I bought off Mr Estcourt during the lease if he has issue, if not then my will is that it shall remaine unto my Sonn Thomas Pitt during the lease if he has issue, but if it doe fall out that he hath noe issue , then my will is that it shall remaine amongst the children of my Brother Lewis Bradley, also I give unto my Sonn John the biggest cauldron, the biggest platter, one potenger, the biggest Candlefirke on robeshelf (?), the best sheete, on blankett Item my will is that Elizabeth Pitt my wife, shall have and enjoy all my goodes and chattells whatsoever during her naturall life Item all of the rest of my goods moveable and nonmoveable so xxxxx & so bequeathed I give unto my wife Elizabeth Pitt, and to my sonn Thomas Pitt whom I make my joint executors for to see my body buryed and my debtes paid.
