THE WILL OF DANIELL PITT, YEOMAN, OF BROCKENBROUGH, WILTS

DATED 20 OCTOBER 1670

In the name of God Amen: The Three and Twentieth Day of October in the two and twentieth year of the Raigne of our Soveraigne Lord Charles the Second of England Scotland ffrance & Ireland King Defender of the ffaith in Anno Dm 1670 I Daniell Pitt, of the pish of Brockenbrough in the County of Wilts yeoman being sick of body but of sound & perfect memory: praised be the Lord therfor doe make & ordaine this my Last will & Testament in manner & fforme following: Ffirst & pprincipally I Commend my soule into the hands of Allmighty god my Creator trusting approval through the merritts of Jesus Christ my Saviour & Redeemer to obtaine pardon & forgiveness of all my sins & my body to the earth whereof it was att ffirst formed to be Decently buried att the Discretion of my Executrix hereafter to be named And for such worldly goods as the Lord hath blessed me with all favor be yond my desserts or expectation I doe order give & Dispose of the same as hereafter in & by this my will is specified & declared: Item I give & devise unto Hanna my wife all that Annuitie or rent of fowerfour pounds by the year End & payable by my brother John Pitt out of his estate for the terme of seven years as she shall for long continue un married And also I give & devise unto the sayd Hanna my wife all the Rent or some of three pounds by the year End & payable out of the rents & profits of one Close of pasture ground wch was left of her ffathers liveing in Brokenbrough called by the name of Newbraze (?) for & during the Terme of her natural life if She Shall for long continue un married Item I give & bequeath unto the sayd Hanna my wife all my Brass Pewter bedding & all other my household stuff to remain to her use for long as she shall live unmarried And if she happens to marrie the sayd rent of ffowerfour pounds by the year & the sayd three pounds by the year & the sayd household stuffs to Remain to the use & Comfort of my ffower children to be equally devided between them And whereon I have delivered into the hands of my Brother John Pitt in Chattells & money the some of ffowerfour pounds of Lawfull money of England to the intent & purpose that if it please the Lord to restore me to my former health to deliver it back again to me but if this sicknes shall put an end to my life then my will is that the sayd some of ffowerfour pounds shall be equally devided by the sayd John Pitt my brother between my ffower children that is to say Joseph John Daniell & Crasett when they shall attain to their severall & respective ages of one & twenty years If either or any of them happen to decease before they attaine to the sayd age of one & twenty years the legacie or legacies of either or any of them for decxxxxxx to Remain to the survivor or survivors of them to be equally devided between them & as for the use or comfit that shall happen to be made of the sayd some of ffowerfour pounds my will is shall be employed towards the maintenance of of my sayd children or towards the binding them apprentice as the sayd John Pitt my Brother Shall think the most convenient All the Rest of my goods & chattels wch I have not bequeathed as afoursayd I give & bequeath unto Hanna my wife whom I make my whole & sole Executrix to for my Debts payd & my funeral expenses Disbursed & I doe constitute to be overseers of this my will my sd Brother John Pitt & Francis Teerrill whom I hope will endeavour to see it performed to the uttermost of their power & I doe give them twelve pounds apiece for their pains to be taken therin In wittness whereof I have Declared this to be my last will & Testament the day & year first above written
