THE WILL OF ISAAC DAVIS, YEOMAN, OF BROKENBROUGH, WILTS

DATED 4 JANUARY 1679

In the Name of God Amen The ffourth Day of January in the thirty third year of the Raigne of Our Soveraigne Lord Charles the Second of England Scotland Ffrance Ireland King Defender of the ffaith in Anno Dom 1679 I Isaac Davis of Brokenboro in the County of Wilts yeoman being sick of body but of perfect memory thank be the Lord I Doe here ordain this my last Will & Testament in manner & forme following ffirst I bequeath my Soule unto Almighty god my Creator trusting through the merritts of Jesus Christ my Redeemer to obtain forgiveness of all my Sinns And my body to the earth whereof it was formed to be Decently buried att the Discretion of my Executor hereafter be named for my Worldly Goods I Doe give & dispose of the same as in & by this will & Testament is Specified & Declared. Ffirst I give & bequeath unto hanna my wife my Messuage & Tenement with all other the houses & with the appurtenances wch I have in Brokenbrough aforesaid to Remaine to her use during her natural life & after her Decease to Remaine to my sonne Isaac his Executors & Administrators Assigns for all Residue of years mentioned in the Lease thereof Ffirstly my will is that the Kitchen and the Chamber over the kitchen Shall remain to the use of my ffour Daughters for soe long time as they or either of them Shall continue unmarried butt as either or any xxx Shall be Married the interest or either or any of them for marrying to be void Item I also bequeath to hanna my wife my Cow & three hefers & I give unto her my crops of corn on the ground & one ewe lamb & I give unto my wife the use of all my household goods during her natural life & after her decease to Remain to my ffowerdaughters to be equally divided between them Itm I give & bequeath all my xxxx to be equally divided between my Sonn Isaac and my ffour daughters All the rest of my Goods and Chattells wch I have not bequeathed as aforesaid I give & bequeath unto my Sonne Isaac whom I make my whole & Sole Executor to see my debts & my funeral expenses disbursed And I constitute & appointe to be overseers of this my will John Ludlowe & Ffrancis Terrill whom I hope will endeavour to see it performed to the uttermost of their power & I give them six pence apeice for their pains to be taken therein In Witness whereof I have sett my hand & seale & declared this to be my last will & testament the day & year first above written
