OBITUARY
"Mrs. Mary Babbitt. St. Augustine, Oct. 6. (Special) Mary A. Wheeler Babbitt, second daughter of A.O. and Fannie Butler Wheeler, was born near Avon, Ill., on August 28, 1857, and died at the home of her son Aaron in St. Augustine on October 3, at the age of 76 years, 1 month and 5 days. Her parents who came to Illinois from the state of New Hampshire in 1855, first settled in Prairie City for a short time, soon thereafter moving to a farm near Avon where she was born. At the age of seven years, and in the fall of 1869, she moved with her parents to St. Augustine which has ever since been her home with the exception of two years spent in Galesburg at the home of her sons, Russell and Orloff. On May 24, 1883,she was married to James T. Harper and while yet a bride of less than two months she lost her husband who was killed by lightning on July 16, 1883. On July 30, 1893, she was married to J.R. Babbitt who preceded her in death on September 15,1916. To this union were born three sons, Aaron of St. Augustine, and Russell and Orloff both of Galesburg, who survive, as does also a sister, Mrs. Rose Perdreyra of Peoria. One sister, Viola, died in infancy. She also leaves to mourn her death two step-children, Charles Babbitt of Chicago and Mrs. Gay Sisco of Humboldt, Nebr., and six grandchildren.
