The Seminary was established in 1841, with most of the students being from Muncie. George W. Garst made the donation of a square. One of the first teachers was Volney Willson. Cost of tuition depended on the subject matter and ranged from $3.50 to $9.00 per session; expensive for the time. The Seminary had two sessions per year of 5 months each. Operation of the school was managed by Teacher, Mr. A. F. Estabrook. A declaration of intent to operate the school in an exemplary manner was signed on 28 Aug 1846, by John Brady, President; James L. Russey, Thomas Barnes, Isaac Norris, Moses Neely, Trustees; Warren Stewart, Clerk.
