KITH AND KIN CONNECTION

Hackett, Thomas---------------------------------Newspaper Obituary------------------------------------------
Thomas Hackett was born in Cincinnati, December 22, 1808, died at his home at Roanoke, Indiana, August 6, 1896. August 7 1832, he was united in marriage with Margaret Payton. To this union were born nine children, Mary Jane, William, Mahala, Thomas B, John, Cornelius, Isaac, Alice, Anna M, the later five of whom survive. In the year 1847, the family removed to Huntington county and settled on the farm at the outskirts of Roanoke on which they have lived ever since. Since that time, Mr. Hackett, as he became a successful farmer through his hard work, became more and better known, and at the time of his death, was one of the most prominent men in the township from the fact of his extreme old age and pioneer experience, but more so perhaps because of his most excellent character and reputation of being one of the kindest and most benevolent members of our community. He was a life-long member, having been a member of the Christian church until his removal to this county, when he joined the M. E. church, and lived a most devout and pious member till his death.
