Many of our Ackerman ancestors were unable to write their name and so could not sign the registers. To overcome this they made their mark, which was a cross - X. Where this has occurred I have indicated this by a X.

Unfortunately in many cases I have not been given this information, so do not assume the absence of a mark X is confirmation that the person could write their name.

I have, wherever possible, included the Witnesses. This can often be a great help in linking members of a family.
