Given below are links to other web sites, which I have found useful in researching our Ackerman family.

The best help is often from fellow Ackerman researchers. Try the GenUKI Search Facilty . This can also be used for other searches.

The David Ackerman Descendants have information on Ackerman's worldwide although the emphasis is very much on the USA.

Try the Ackerman Family Genealogy Forum at GenForum.

Two sites, which are essential reading for anyone researching in the UK, are GENUKI and Cyndis List - England.

The GOONS are an umbrella organization for people who are doing One Name Studies. The Ackerman name isn't registered but thousands are, and you may be lucky with one of your other names.

Old Maps is a digital historical map archive, and shows where your ancestors used to live.

And finally the LDS Family Search which is a computerized database containing millions of Baptisms and Marriages in England and Wales; unfortunately it contains very few Burials. It can be very useful in tracing your ancestors; but be aware it does contain many errors, and it should only be used as a finding aid, always try to have the entry checked in the original register. It is not a complete record, many Parishes are not included, and even when a parish is represented, there may be many gaps. My wife's Ackerman's spent many years in Somerset, and less than 5% of the Somerset records are included. But it can be a tremendous help in finding that missing relative, and Family Historians owe a great debt of gratitude to the Mormon Church.
