Myrtle Edwards

Longtime Skagway resident and former Douglas resident Myrtle Marie Edwards died Oct. 30, 2000, in Juneau. She was an 83-year resident of Alaska.

She was born Aug. 20, 1917, in Skagway to William and Alta Feero, the middle child in a family of seven children. She moved to Douglas to attend school and her father took a job as Deputy Federal Marshall. She graduated from Douglas High School in 1935. She married Orrin Edwards of Douglas in 1938 and returned to Skagway in 1945.

She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Skagway for 53 years, and a member of the Presbyterian Church for 52 years.

She is survived by her daughter Shirley Hughes of Tennessee; sons David Edwards of Massachusetts, John Edwards of Juneau and Alan Edwards of New Hampshire; sister Geneva Walters of Arizona and brother John Feero of Sterling; also nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

Services were held Nov. 3 at the First Presbyterian Church in Skagway. Pallbearers were John Tronrud, Si Dennis Jr., Dennis Spurrier, Paul Taylor, Mark Maggi and Jeff Kasler. Honorary pallbearers were David Edwards, Alan Edwards, Gary Danielson, Bill Hunz, Oscar Selmer, Fred Beeks, Charlie Burnham, Les Fairbanks, Vern Grisham, Bob Rapuzzi and Don Thoe.
