Thomas Jefferson Castleman was born in Rutherford County Tennessee. He first married Ann Tennessee Cowgill then a second marriage to Margaret Elizabeth Waggoner, both marriages were in Davidson County, Tennessee. Tom and Ann did not have any children but he and Martha were more prolific, producing ten children in twenty years, all but two of the children were born in Tennessee. The last two were born after the family arrived in Red River Co., TX in the early1880s.
He had served in the Civil War on the Union side as a private, Co. E. 4th Michigan Cavalry-2nd Battalion (3rd East Tennesse Volunteers). Subsequently he filed a report using a Red River Co., TX attorney, requesting bounty land for his military service during the years 1862-1864. and received a pension for bounty land file # SO1187132
Thomas died 5 March 1908 and Martha 26 November 1906, they share a tombstone in Blanton Creek Cemetery, Red River Co., TX.
