Goldie Hazel (TJC) Castleman

(Family photo 1942)

My father didn't talk much about his family and most of his siblings died before I was born. He was 36 years old before he married and 45 years old when I was born so, I am about a generation behind all my cousins in age. I only met a few of them, one of whom was Goldie. Goldie and her husband "Rich" used to come visit dad at our store when I was young. I was so much younger than they I didn't have much interaction with them, just knew that they were family, I did not see her again for many years.

A couple of years ago, I was able to meet with Goldie again. Her son, my second cousin, Richard, took me to the care facility where she was living. In her nineties, she was still able to carry a little conversation and I like to think she remembered me. I wanted so much to ask her some questions about the family but couldn't bring myself to do so, deciding to be content with the stories and photos Richard could contribute.

Goldie died the next summer while I was visiting my sister in California and I went to the funeral. She was very involved in her church and had a nice turn out of friends and family. She will be much missed by all. She was buried with "Rich" where she had buried him a few years before.
