Helpful Hints:

These records were made in 1953 - there are additional sections to the cemetery that are not listed in the records or on the map. The office is in its original spot - so orientate yourself there. You can also orientate yourself by the Mariner's Monument.

The numbers 1 - 8 are written on the inside of the Merrick Road Wall. These numbers correspond to the lE through 8E rows.

Lines 1 through 11 are gone. They have been resold, and all the old headstones are gone.

At least one-third of the rest of the old markers are also gone. Many of these plots have been resold, which can make it confusing to try to follow these Records. You may have to locate two old Headstones on either side of the plot you are looking for, and 'guesstimate' where your ancestor lies in between.

My advice is to find out in which row your ancestor's plot is located. Write down the names for every plot in that row (the first number in the row will be next to the Merrick Road wall - unless it's in the Triangle in which case the first number will be next to 8E).

Start at the beginning of your row, and locate every headstone that corresponds to your list. Ignore any new headstones, and just keep going until you find your headstone or the area of your plot.
You many want to write down at least the first two or three names for the rows on either side of yours to help you get situated. The headstones, while in rows, do ramble a bit.
