I was currious about your site. Since I only just found out that my GGgrandfather was born in London, Surrey or someplace in the middle; I thought to see how many Blakes are buried in this Cemetery (I have no idea where it is in relation to the above mentioned location.) There were 167 Blake surnames. So I guess that this location in England had many Blakes. All I know is that my ggg was Thomas Blake born about 1835, but I do not know that parents. He served in the L? and York Regiment from about 1850-1880. Would like to find out his parents names. (He was a Chelsea Pensioner as noted on the 1881 Census in Wales) Nice site!

Thank you for a very interesting site. I was able to find my great grandmother LAURA HARRAP in your index (I knew I had relatives buried in Abney Park cemetery) and so was prompted to visit the cemetery and was lucky enough to find the actual grave. This grave also contains my great grandfather HENRY HUMBLE HARRAP and great aunt ANNIS LAURA HARRAP. I will e-mail separately with their details as they were not in the index. Thank you again for making the initial inquiry so easy. Will now try to find the graves for the other HARRAPs in your index to try and link them.

I am doing a single name search - COMFORT - which is I think a family who came here originally as hughenots, at the time of the problems in France. I know that they settled in London, were merchants, friends of Charles Dickens and members of City Livery Companies but finding the graves was another problem. Thank you, for a great site and for the time that this must have taken. It leaves another place, which will remain nameless in the shade. All that I have left to do is to come and find the graves - that will be the easy part of the search. I hope!

My grgrgrandfather was born in London in 1805. His name was John Thomas Brodie and he was baptised at St Leonard's Shoreditch in Dec1805. He came to Aust in 1827 as aconvict an died here in April 1858.His parents were Elizabeth Gore and John Brodie married 7 Nov 1802 at St Leonard's Shoreditch. Didn't really expect to find any relations, but every once in a while one gets lucky. Why my husband's grgr grandfather was buried there I do not know. He died in Kensington in 1871, his name was William CODLIN. His wife Mary CODLIN was buried at Abney Cemetery as well in 1891. According to the 1881 cencus William was born in Hackney, perhaps that's the connection. Just leaves me to fathom out who the other two Codlins were. Elfi codlin

I am trying to find my great grandparents EDWARD NUGENT and MARY MCHUGH. They were living in Stockton on Tees, Durham when my grandfather JAMES was born. I think EDWARD was born in IRELAND and MARY in SCOTLAND both about 1855-60. Since I was not having any luck in finding out about their births I thought I may be able to find out about their final resting place. They were Catholic, so I assume it would be in a Catholic Cemetary in Durham. If any one can help me I would greatly appreciate it.

Great project, particularly as any information about the "BRISCK" family is sparse. The original Jessell Brisck I can find in my family was a cigar maker, born in about 1805 in St Michael's, Hamburg. He ended up in Shoreditch. There appears to be another line from Jessell the french polisher who ended up in Gillingham. Any other info on the Briscks would be much appreciated. Thanks.

My Grandmother was born 29 4 1879 Ethel Sarah Yarroll. She was born in Greenwood Road, Dalston, twin to Mabel Ellen. They were the youngest children of Alfred William Yarroll and Mary Ann nee Hughes. I'm trying to find my greatgrandmother's family. In 1876 they lived in South Hackney. Perhaps her father and mother are buried here. Their names are Richard Henry and Mary Ann Simons. Ellen Jane Simons ,arried Frederick Nettinger and they came to the US after having a daughter in 1882. They named their daughter Ferdinandina after King Ferdinand. Any information anyone has would be gratefully appreciated. I lived in England from 1965 to 1967, but wasn't interested in genealogy then. I could kick myself now.

All the surname pages have been updated. A number of Forenames and ages have been added. A Reminder -- 00y does not mean age of zero. It means that it has not been extracted from the indexes yet.
