I'd like to thank everyone who e-mailed me additions and corrections. As usual, I'm hiding the details on living individuals, but I am putting the names up. If there is anything here that you don't want online, just tell me and it will disappear.
I have several people of interest who descend from John Abbe, General George McClellan from the civil war, the meteorologist and genealogy researcher, often called "The Father of Weather Forecasting", Cleveland Abbey, and the wife of President Eisenhower, Mamie Doud Eisenhower. There were also soldiers in every war that America has ever fought in, from the Pequoit war to the Iraq war. There were pioneers who took many risks heading into the unknown. Let me take you on a voyage into history and discovery. I've tried to add any stories and biographical information about these people to bring them to life for future generations.
I have also included my entire genealogy file, of which the Abbey's are but a small part. My mother's family includes the Abbey, Burnham, Taylor, House, Sanford, Todd, Bigelow, Hollister, Treat, Risley and Loveland surnames from Connecticut and Massachusetts to the firelands of northern Ohio. The Morrows came from Ireland in 1838, the Simmermachers and Hemberles from Baden, Germany around the same time. The Wolfe's and the Krischa's came from Bohemia, Prussia, and France around 1890.
My Father's include the Ward, Bowman, Bemiller, Wilson, Hoover, VanZile, Heldenbrand, Timanus, Ridenour, Harter, Darling, Calhoun, Wolfe, and Treesh families who came to Southern Richland county from Pennsylvania and Virginia between 1810 and 1840. The Calhoun name becomes Colquhoun, and can be traced into Ireland back to the 12th century. There are at least three soldiers in the revolutionary war who are among my ancestors here.
My wife's family's eastern Kentucky connections include Hall, Wilburn, Johnson, Jordan, and Lawhorn. The Erb, and Mansfield families were of Swiss and Dutch ancestry from Pennsylvania. The other branch leads to the Lansdown, Jackson, and Goble clans of North Carolina. The Gobles came from Massachusetts where they intermix with the Fairchild, Seabrook, Brewer, Beach, Fitch, and Houghton families. Also, there is the Reynolds family that was in Virginia in the 1600's.
Any information on these lines would be appreciated. What I have here is all that I have, but I'm always hunting for more. If you can link to my line, just drop me a line how you link in. I never post information on a living person besides their name. Most of the information here came from either the worldconnect project or familysearch.org. Most of my sources were lost in my HD crash in 2005.
I would like to thank a few people who got me started and fueled my need to know. Virginia Morrow was the torch that got me started on the Morrow family, and then Jack Morrow went ever further. My Grandmother and Great-Grandmother, Marjorie Ward, and Grace Bowman kept records and photos that went back many years, and then Kieth Ward and his trips to the National Archives to learn more about our ancestors involvement in the Civil War and the War of 1812. Sandy Lomax taught me that documentation and immaculate record keeping are a must. And also everyone who told me a story, or a little bit of information, those make the people come alive again!
