Carbine is located  in the Coolgardie Goldfield not far from Ora Banda John Smith discovered the Carbine Mine and built and operated the
Carbine Hotel. John Smith then moved on to Mt Morgans 45kms south of Laverton and became the first Mayor of Mount Morgans in 1899 -sadly he
died in office some seven years later and is buried in the Mt Morgans Cemetery
