On the 12 day
in the Month of May
In the townland of Drumearn
Four couples came in a sporting game.
The Fancies called a wedding
First take the
pride(bride) on her you'll pride
A lady tall and slender
With a crooked chin and a face quite thin
And a neck like a Canadian gander
The bridegroom
no toy
With his courduroy
On his feet big whole nailed shoes
And his neck as black as a (darkey's) barley's neck
Like a King of the wild (Tucues or Zucues) lucues.?
????of???? the
(preacher) dog
Was along with bonnie Lizzie
And she just enjoyed the sport that day
But it made her feel quite dizzy
Then the postman
came with the fancies (wain?)
swinging her on his arm
And Mother fancied the whole day long
Will he do her any harm.
Then away they
fled with two big cars
For to hear the ceremony
And Jack was grieved the whole day long
For the spending of his money
But onward sped
Farrels car ahead
Till they came to Orritor Church
Where the Rev Steen so neat and clean
United the larch and birch.
Then his Reverence
read and to Jack he said
Will she be your lawful wife
Jack did reply though young and shy
He would love her all his life
Then he said young
man take her left hand
and place this ring on her finger
Jack did obey, what could he say
No longer could he linger
Then the calm
boy did the drink enjoy
Before the wedding lifted
But when they were gone he didn't stay long
For home till his bed he shifted
And man (Sirbell),
like a hound did yell
Through the whins and brackens
For the drink been long, it didn't take long
His simple nerves a wreching
John Parke that
day threw his plough away
Because he felt so frisky
But for a week or more he felt so sore
For the drinking of that whiskey.
