Additional Information: This concerned a member of my
paternal grandmother's family, in fact her brother William Sykes, a stonemason
by trade, from the Halifax-Huddersfield-Bradford triangle in West Yorkshire,
England. He went to New Zealand and had a family there, some of whom may
possibly be traceable today. My grandmother, Eliza Ann Sykes lived from 1876
until 1969, so her brother will be in the same time period.
William married a Sarah. Their children were Gladys and Frank
Sykes. Gladys had a daughter Alison, who possibly visited the UK in the 1980s
to visit Frank Sykes Crossley (my father) and Lena Crossley Langford, my aunt,
both living at the time in Yorkshire. They are both now deceased.
The Sykes were famous stonemasons and apparently were
responsible for the civic buildings in Auckland, or so I'm told.
