Gabrilla Augustine Underwood was born 17 Mar 1830 in Haywood County, North Carolina. She was the 5th child out of 14 to be born to Rev. Jesse Underwood and Mary Elizabeth Ledbetter. Gabrilla was a homemaker, and raised the children alone while her husband was away in the Civil War. Gabrilla was married to William for 52 years 222 days. She died 20 Aug 1899 in Alto Pass and is buried next to her husband at Alto Pass Cemetery. Her grave is not marked. Her husband's grave has just recently been marked. I ordered a tombstone from the VA for his grave.
