Benjamin Crowley I was born ca. 1739 in Orange County, Virginia. He was the son of Jeffrey and Effie Crowley of Orange, Bedford, Lunenburg and Halifax (Effie was dead by the time Jeffrey moved to Halifax County) Counties. His step mother was Mrs. Martha Edwards Crowley of Halifax County. Benjamin is found in 1755 (Bedford Co) when his asignee was James Tilley for a wolf's head bounty for 50 pounds of tobacco. In 1758, Benjamin was paid for service in the Halifax County Militia. He was paid for 23 days of service. By 1765, his father had been dead for 4 years, and Benjamin was found in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. Sometime after 1784 and before 1795, Benjamin and family removed to Oglethorpe County, Georgia. Benjamin died there ca Oct 1817.

Sarah "Sary" Strong was born 24 Jul 1742 in Hanover County, Virginia. She was the daughter of William and Ms. Cape Strong. Her paternal grandparents are John and Ms. Sherwood Strong of New Kent County, Virginia. Sarah died ca. 1827 in Oglethorpe County, Georgia.

They were the parents of: Benjamin II, Mary Thornton, Elizabeth, Samuel, Archibald, William, Abraham, James M., Matilda Wilkes, Spencer and Charles.
