Scope

The information in this section consists of a partial transcription of the 1871 Census for Berwick. Partial on two counts.

Firstly the film only covered half of the county.

Secondly, the criteria for selecting information:

Transcriptions

I have transcribed as I saw. This raises several points.

Do - Understandably the enumerator uses do quite a bit (meaning of course ditto, or that which was written above). I have transcribed the dos, and where the information referred to has not also been transcribed, I have provided this information in [Brackets]
? - When I am unsure of a word I have placed a ? immediately after my best guess.
Page Totals - Where I have transcribed a whole page, I have included the totals at the end of the page.
obs - Where information has been obscured, I have denoted this obs. This most frequently occurs for the number of windowed rooms when the information gets lost in the deep binding.
