Accident occurred today on board the Oamaru Harbor Board's new dredge which is being fitted up at Port Chalmers. A workman named BASIRE now lies in the hospital in an unconscious state. The Melbourne witnesses gave evidence in the MASSEY case today, identifying Mrs MASSEY as the Mrs ALLEN and Mrs BROWN who sold debentures at Melbourne. Both MASSEY and his wife were fully committed for trial. Hokitika.- The Ross Gold Mining Company shaft is now down to over 200 feet, and another layer of 6 feet of payable gold has been passed through. Timaru- The Harbor Board today accepted the Bank of New Zealand's tender for raising the 100,000 pound loan. Mr C W TURNER's tender at 4p 9s 9d per ton was accepted for 2000 tons of cement. Mr Robert ESPIE aged 58 years. One of the oldest settlers in Poverty Bay
and was generally respected by all who knew him. His funeral was far more
imposing than any that had been previously taken place in this district.
Being a Volunteer the corpse was preceded by his comrades in full uniform,
and followed by nearly all the settlers in Turanga. The usual volleys

The main building was not occupied and the cause is unknown. One of the first on the sport was Lieut JACKSON, of the
